Dr. Nykiel is a third generation, life-long resident of Downriver. After graduating from Grosse Ile High School in 1970, he attended Adrian College and received his Bachelors degree in Biology, while playing basketball and golf for the school. He then attended the University of Detroit, where in 1978, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
Dr. Nykiel is very active in the dental community and feels very strong about keeping current with the progress and technology in his field. Continuing education has always been an enjoyment and a priority in his career. He has received extensive training from many of the leading educators in Orthodontics, Root Canal Therapy, Periodontal Therapy, Cosmetics and Implant dentistry. He completed a three year Orthodontic program with Straight Wire Seminars, a two year Cosmetic training program through Louisiana State University and an Implant training program through Nobel Biocare.
He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association and the Detroit District Dental Society, where he serves on the Program Selection Committee for the annual Scientific Meeting. As a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, he serves on the Annual Meetings Council and received his Fellowship in 2011. He is also Treasurer and Past President of the Michigan Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Nykiel also serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry Alumni Association and is a Past President.
